It’s a Party
To celebrate this first blog post, it was only appropriate to start with bubbles. Sparkling wine is seen as only a celebration wine, which is a shame. Bubbles are fun anytime and a good, inexpensive option is The Infinite Monkey Theorem Bubble Universe Rosé. It is a darker pink color and has some nice tiny bubbles. The bubbles aren’t as refined as Champagne bubbles but they are fun and at $11 for a 4-pack of cans, it’s a great price. Now, I love the act of opening a bottle but cans do have a place. They are portable, so they are easy to take on picnics, backpacking or camping, or taking to other outdoor activities. My favorite reason for a can is that it is a single serving. I can open one when I feel like it and don’t have to worry about trying to finish a bottle before it goes flat. The can makes it more convenient to drink.
The Taste Test
The wine smells fruity with strawberries, yellow apple, pear and lemons. When you take a drink, that’s when the intensity hits you. You still can taste the fruit but it seems like it has spent a little time in contact with grape skins instead of being blended. There isn’t any mouth dryness but there is a bitterness at the end that makes this rosé more robust and a little more in your face than a light, delicate rosé.
The Food Situation
In general, bubbles go with anything you are eating and The Infinite Monkey Theorem Bubble Universe Rosé is no different. It’s more intense flavor lends itself to foods that also have stronger flavors. Picnic foods like fried chicken, salami, and potato salad would go very nicely with this wine. So would camping foods that have been cooked over a fire such as hamburgers and hotdogs. Salty snack foods also go very nicely. I particularly enjoyed drinking this while munching on Doritos. However, my favorite pairing is with a grilled cheese sandwich. While any cheddar would do in this sandwich, I recommend sharp cheddar. The intensity of the cheddar balances the bitterness of the wine and vice versa, making each component a little sweeter. Both sourdough and a French country loaf are my preferred bread recommendations.
So now that you have an easy, inexpensive option for bubbles, this wine style can easily become a part of your everyday life. Adopt a more casual opinion of bubbles and drink them with everything. After all, bubbles make everyone’s day better.
