I’ll come right out and say that I am not the biggest Pinot Grigio fan. I generally drink wines that are more on the bolder side of the spectrum. But for people who are just getting introduced to wine or are not really a fan of wine, Pinot Grigio is a perfect choice. Generally, Pinot Grigio is light and fruity, with a crisp texture in the mouth. It needs to be cold in order to bring out the flavors and is more of a summer wine.
The Dark Horse Pinot Grigio is a great interpretation of what I think Pinot Grigio should be. This wine is more flavorful and medium bodied. It has green apple and peach flavors that initially dominate and then finishes off with a nice lemon tang. It is a vibrant wine, not dull, and is a really easy wine to drink.
Foods that pair with Pinot Grigio
This is a wine that pairs with lighter flavors and seafood is a classic choice. Shellfish in particular is great with Pinot Grigio. Clams, mussel, scallop or shrimp dishes, with light butter sauces, would be fabulous with this wine. White fish and light meat, such as chicken and pork, would also be a great pairing. This would be a wine that I would have at my Christmas table as a choice for all those relatives who are not wine drinkers.
However, for me, the best pairing for this wine is snacking. This wine goes with nuts and mild cheeses, apples, pears and citrus fruit, or fruit salsas and chips. I can end the night not feeling like I overindulged and I’ll be able to sleep with a clear conscience. It’s also a good nightcap type of drink. Unlike bourbon or beer, the Dark Horse Pinot Grigio leaves you feeling refreshed and not full. After having a glass, you’ll be able to go to bed knowing that you’ll be able to fall asleep .
