It’s a new year and a new season of “The Bachelor“. Some years I have stayed with it all the way to the end. Other years, I got annoyed with all the women or decided that the man wasn’t worth my viewing time. But I always watch the beginning because it is a rollercoaster. I wonder who’s going to be the crazy one that they keep for awhile (I find this practice unnecessary as the women can create enough drama on their own). I want to see who the immediate frontrunners will be and who can’t keep it together.
The one thing that is a constant is a glass of wine to make things more fun. For this season, I picked the Purple Paradise because I felt that it had the same personality as the show. The fruit is juicy, just like the immediate gossip. It’s black fruit-black cherry, blackberry and black raspberry. It’s smooth, like the bachelor-with silky tannins and well integrated oak. There are hints of cedar and vanilla that enhance the dark character of the wine. The wine is bold, yet sexy, just as the women have to be to get the bachelor’s attention. The wine is 70% Zinfandel, 17% Petite Sirah, 9% Syrah, and 4% Grenache.
The wines from Chronic Cellars radiate fun. The labels have a Día de los Muertos vibe to them. They give the image of a hip party with an edge to it. You could be drinking this wine while listening to Iron Maiden or a mariachi band and it would be appropriate. I would not feel out of place if I had a glass of this wine in one hand and a Margarita it the other. It seems random, just like some of the Bachelor dates, but also seems perfectly right.
So, if you are looking for the perfect wine pairing for the Bachelor, this is it. It is bold, sexy, smooth and juicy, just like the show itself. It allows you to settle in, relax and enjoy your evening. I’ll give it my rose.
