It’s pool season and there’s nothing that makes me feel like I’m on vacation more than getting to go spend some time in the sun. That feeling is reinforced when I remember to take some “pool juice” with me. It’s not often that I day drink but when I decide too, it needs to have a sense of fun related to it and it should be lower in alcohol.
The Sofia Brut Rosé minis are just the thing. First of all, they are adorable. They are tiny cans that hold 187 ml of Francis Ford Coppola wine. Second, it’s in a can. The four-pack is perfect for taking to the pool, where glass is persona non grata. Third, the cans come with straws. Super fun and a little bougie, perfect for an afternoon pool hangout. Finally, and most importantly, the wine is enjoyable.
It is a wine that is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The smell is Meyer lemon, raspberry and white flowers. It tastes like strawberry, pomegranate, mandarin orange and ginger. The carbonation is added, as opposed to occurring naturally, but it is not too much and the wine does not go flat before you finish the can.
There are better rosés out there but they are in bottles and perhaps too serious for our purposes. This is a solid, drinkable and portable wine that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It pairs well with picnic/pool food too. Potato chips and fried chicken are two of my favorite pairings. This wine would go with just about any snack that you would want to take to a pool-crackers, Goldfish, nuts and even sweeter things like fruit leather, brownies and peanut M&Ms.
So, for your next pool outing, grab a four pack and see what you think. I bet you’ll find that it’s the most fun you’ve had at the pool in a long time. Oh, and don’t forget the snacks.
