The last month has been busy, with a lot of traveling. First was the beautiful town of Lake City, Colorado. It is small and set in the San Juan Mountains. It also hosts an awesome mountain bike race that goes over Cinnamon Pass and Engineer Pass. The weather was beautiful and the people are super friendly. It’s also designated as a dark sky city, so viewing the Milky Way here is an experience. My husband and I decided that, since we were already in the area, we might as well spend a few days in Crested Butte. So, after the race, we drove a couple of hours to the condo we had rented. We spent the next two days hiking and mountain biking, enjoying the amazing scenery and food that the town has to offer. One highlight of the trip was visiting the Montanya Rum distillery. The drinks were really original and packed a punch. We were home for a couple of days and then it was off to Vail, Colorado. For this trip, riding the Copper Triangle and visiting friends was on the agenda. I grew up about fifteen minutes away, so Vail is a favorite place for me.
On the first night home from this adventure, all I wanted to do was sit and watch tv and-of course-have a glass of wine. The Louis Jadot Chardonnay was perfect for this. It is a crisp and refreshing Chardonnay. It has the flavors of yellow apple, lemon, lime and white flowers. It has a nice mineral finish and a zippy acidity. The best part for me is that it is unoaked, so you get the true flavor of the chardonnay grape. It reminds me of a Sancerre but without the price tag.
This wine is 100% Chardonnay and the vineyards are grown in soils that are high in chalk and limestone, which imparts the nice minerality at the finish. The vineyards are located in the Mâconnaise area of Burgundy, a high quality area for white Burgundy. Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 and became a négotiant, as well as a vintner. They have been able to market their wines all over the world and create great wines for the price.
I drank this wine by itself but it would pair nicely with pasta, seafood and light vegetable dishes. However, I highly recommend drinking it while watching drama filled reality tv. It only enhances the experience.
